SAVE THE BABYIRBIS Project

The “SAVE THE BABYIRBIS” is an initiative of the Snow Leopard Charity Foundation.

The SAVE THE BABYIRBIS project aims to mobilize resources and raise awareness for the conservation of the Snow Leopard, an iconic and critically endangered species.

The project focuses on protecting these majestic animals’ habitat, supporting anti-poaching measures, and fostering community engagement and education to ensure the survival of future generations. Through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, SAVE THE BABYIRBIS aims to make a noticeable impact that not only benefits the Snow Leopard population but also contributes to the ecological balance of their environments.

The specific objectives of the project are to finance projects:

  • Given the transnational range of the Irbis, the money will be used to finance cross-border projects aimed at the conservation, rehabilitation, and breeding of the Snow Leopard;
  • To educate local communities on the importance of protecting snow leopards;
  • To engage local communities in conservation activities and help them achieve sustainable livelihoods without wildlife hunting;
  • Participating in activities and programs related to the protection and creation of conditions for the life and development of snow leopards in their natural habitat.

Target groups of the SAVE THE BABYIRBIS project are environmental conservationists, wildlife enthusiasts, and organizations dedicated to biodiversity preservation. Additionally, the project aims to engage local communities living in proximity to the snow leopard habitats, as their participation is crucial for effective conservation efforts. Educational institutions and volunteer associations are also a focus, to foster a sense of responsibility and awareness about wildlife protection from an early age. Moreover, policymakers and government bodies are targeted to influence and implement wildlife-friendly policies. Lastly, the project seeks to involve the general public and potential donors from all over the world to generate widespread support and funding for its initiatives.

Eligible funding areas (grants) for SAVE THE BABYIRBIS project include habitat conservation and restoration efforts for the snow leopard, research and monitoring programs to track population and health status of the species, community-based initiatives that involve and benefit local populations, educational outreach and awareness campaigns to promote the importance of snow leopard protection, anti-poaching activities and enforcement of wildlife protection laws, development and implementation of sustainable livelihood programs for communities in snow leopard habitats, and partnership building with international organizations for knowledge and resource sharing. Additionally, the grant may cover the application of innovative technologies in conservation efforts, such as satellite tracking or AI-based monitoring systems.

At least 5 grants are planned, corresponding to the intervention areas:

1. Research and Innovation Grant;

2. Educational Grant;

1. Support Programs for Local Communities;

1. Rewards for Volunteers.

The implementation period is 18-23 months and projects must be completed no later than December 31, 2027.

For the grant can apply the organizations and associations from countries within the Snow Leopard (IRBIS) habitat, including: Nepal, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan.

Grant recipients will report on the implementation of budgeted activities every six months.
